Antiquing Furniture: No Sanding

For months now I have been telling my hubby that I want to try re-finishing a piece of furniture just to see how it turns out.
We were driving home when I saw a garage sale sign and we went to my first ever garage sale.
We found these 2 tables and figured it'd be the perfect time to experiment with the idea.
We love the outcome so much we can't wait to do it again.
Step 1:
We went to  lowes and they mixed the color chalk board paint we wanted.  Why chalked board paint? NO SANDING! Yes, really, no need to sand!
We had them custom mix a light gray for us.  When painting don't worry about the brush strokes, it adds to the character.

Step 2:
We watered down some sample white paint and added a coat over the gray.  Don't worry about how white it looks, it dries almost clear.

Step 3:
Sand the corners and edges that would naturally get some wear and tear. We sanded the top and side smooth surfaces as well.

Step 4:
We got an almost clear wax and added ebony furniture stain.  I  kept adding until it was as dark as I wanted it.  I melted the wax in a bowl in the microwave, others would probably suggest boiling the can in hot water.  Then we painted on the wax and it made such a huge difference!

And that is it, very simple to do and so worth it!

The room is not yet complete but this is just to give an idea of what it looks like in a setting.

Long Awaited

Ethan has had the typical "little brother" problems. A huge one being that he has been going to all Kaidens scouting activities for 2 years and couldn't participate. Being the observer of your bigger brother having fun... not so much fun. Then we had the move to Dubai, so what should've been his first year, wasn't. He was so excited and was all smiles at his very first scouting event where he could participate! I can't get over how cute and official he looked in his uniform. He took every belt loop he earned extremely seriously. It's also weird to see Kaiden in his webelo uniform, I always saw it as for the "bigger boys". I guess my little Kaiden is one of the big boys now.

Mr. and Mrs. John Benham!!!

This is the moment we have both been waiting for for years! It was perfection. Nothing short of magical. We had quite a bit of time after getting ready, there were so many emotions, so happy I laughed, so happy I cried. I love these photos and am so happy that every moment was captured.  Can't wait to see the professional ones!                                 Waiting for the go ahead                                         It's time!!                              Everyone ready t...

Because Of You

Daddy, because of you I...well, exist.  Because of you I know I am special because you told me every day.Because of you I made it through some really hard times, you were and are still always there for me.  Because of you I always know I have a friend to listen that always has my back.  Thanks for letting me watch T.V. when I wasn't allowed to, bringing me home chocolates and pepsi (which was a BIG deal back then).  Thank you for everything you have done for me, and I hope you know how much I love you. Jesse, because of you I have the 2 most wonderful little boys in the world.  I know we may not always see eye to eye but when it comes to our boys we can always come together and do what is best for them and I appreciate that, and I am sure when they are old enough to understand what we do for them, so will they. John, because of you the boys have a good role model.  Because of you  I get to show them by example what a loving, caring relationshi...
