Antiquing Furniture: No Sanding

For months now I have been telling my hubby that I want to try re-finishing a piece of furniture just to see how it turns out.
We were driving home when I saw a garage sale sign and we went to my first ever garage sale.
We found these 2 tables and figured it'd be the perfect time to experiment with the idea.
We love the outcome so much we can't wait to do it again.
Step 1:
We went to  lowes and they mixed the color chalk board paint we wanted.  Why chalked board paint? NO SANDING! Yes, really, no need to sand!
We had them custom mix a light gray for us.  When painting don't worry about the brush strokes, it adds to the character.

Step 2:
We watered down some sample white paint and added a coat over the gray.  Don't worry about how white it looks, it dries almost clear.

Step 3:
Sand the corners and edges that would naturally get some wear and tear. We sanded the top and side smooth surfaces as well.

Step 4:
We got an almost clear wax and added ebony furniture stain.  I  kept adding until it was as dark as I wanted it.  I melted the wax in a bowl in the microwave, others would probably suggest boiling the can in hot water.  Then we painted on the wax and it made such a huge difference!

And that is it, very simple to do and so worth it!

The room is not yet complete but this is just to give an idea of what it looks like in a setting.

This is the moment we have both been waiting for for years! It was perfection. Nothing short of magical. And the Fun Begins

On Sunday, March 11th, we welcomed our newest family member.  Amalia Rachael Emily Benham. It all began Saturday morning.  I had signs of labor but we had the Pinewood Derby so I hoped she would wait.  And of course, she did. Contractions started coming in very slowly and Mummy and Binx came over.  We hung out, and hung out, and hung out and the contractions weren't getting stronger but slowly moving closer together.  We all finally took naps then we started hanging out again.  Finally at 12am we decided to go to the hospital. 3 cm dilated and I was admitted. Kindle, my bff of course came to the hospital as well.  All our biggest supporters were there. Waiting for Baby  Getting some well needed rest. Last moments before birth  My contractions never got  intense before the epidural kicked in, thank goodness.  Somehow my left side didn't kick in so I could feel it all on that side, but because I have back labor and I co...

Beautiful Baby Shower

This past weekend was our baby shower!!  We decided to do it a bit early because I am one of those over-organized, over-prepared types.  It was hosted by my best friend Kindle and my sister Bianca. I told Kindle I wanted a slight winter wonderland pink theme since it is so close to Christmas and this is what I walked in to! It was absolutely beautiful, and we were joined by all our best family and friends, we appreciate everyone that made this such a special day for us.  This game was to guess how big I was and believe it or not the winner was Ethan!! He definitely knows his Mummy!  The chocolate diaper game. (It was Johns first shower, he must've thought we were all crazy).  Getting ready for presents!! (The boys got to open them all).  Kindle surprised the boys with a gift each. It was a shirt with their picture saying "I'm the biggest Brother" and "I'm the big Brother" for the hospital. Most thoughtful thing ever!!! I wish I could relive ...
